Business Tourism in the Idyllic Mediterranean Setting: FAM Trip in Slovenian Istria
Posted by TU Events on .
Slovenian Istria, with its mild Mediterranean climate, charming coastal towns, and rich cultural heritage, is increasingly positioning itself as an attractive destination for MICE tourism.
At its heart lies Portorož, a renowned seaside resort on the Adriatic coast that offers the perfect blend of a professional business environment and a relaxing atmosphere. This region provides not only modern congress facilities and luxury hotels, but also authentic experiences through local gastronomy, fine wines, wellness offerings, and stunning natural landscapes. The gastronomic scene of Slovenian Istria—rooted in the fusion of coastal and inland traditions—adds significant value for business guests, who, alongside high-level events, are offered moments of enjoyment and connection. How this destination successfully balances professionalism with immersive experiences—turning every business visit into an unforgettable journey—was revealed to us by our partners from Remisens Hotel Metropol and the Tourist Board Portorož-Piran.
Perched on a hill above the famous Portorož promenade, Remisens Hotel Metropol stands as a symbol of elegance and comfort on the Slovenian coast. Surrounded by Mediterranean greenery and offering spectacular sea views, the hotel provides an exceptional experience for all guests—whether they are visiting for leisure or business purposes.
For those seeking a leisure experience, Remisens Hotel Metropol offers luxurious rooms and suites, an exclusive spa and wellness center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and outstanding gastronomy. Guests can enjoy peace and tranquility while remaining just steps away from the vibrant center of Portorož and its beaches.
For business guests, hotel is a perfect choice, featuring modern conference halls fully equipped for all types of meetings, seminars, and corporate events. Professional service, flawless organization, and an inspiring location make the hotel an ideal venue for successful business gatherings in a pleasant setting. The hotel successfully combines the best of both worlds—exclusive leisure and efficient business—offering every guest a unique stay in the heart of the Adriatic Riviera.
After a short break and a warm welcome from our hosts, we headed to Piran—a true gem of the Slovenian coast. This charming town captivates at first sight: narrow stone streets, Venetian architecture, and a romantic atmosphere blend into an authentic Mediterranean experience. Situated on a promontory along the Adriatic Sea, Piran is a harmonious combination of rich cultural heritage, art, and the warmth of the coastal lifestyle.
A walk along the seafront, sunset views from the city walls, and the panorama overlooking Tartini Square leave a lasting impression. In the company of representatives of the Tourist Board Portorož-Piran, we enjoyed lunch at Stara Gostilna, a restaurant proudly holding a prestigious Michelin recommendation. The young chef, just 24 years old, prepared a true gastronomic journey through local flavors and delicacies.
After exploring the town, we relaxed in the hotel’s wellness and spa center, unwinding and preparing for a gala dinner thoughtfully organized by our hosts.
The second day was dedicated to discovering some of the region’s most fascinating sites: the Piranske soline, the Gramona Farm with an olive oil tasting, and a visit to the Fonda Fish Farm. These three elements—salt, olive oil, and fish—tell the authentic story of this remarkable region.
Our journey then led us to Kempinski Palace Portorož, a true grande dame among hotels. Accompanied by the hotel’s representatives, we toured facilities designed for both leisure and business guests. Lunch at Fleur de Sel was a remarkably fine dining experience that we will remember for a long time.
The afternoon was reserved for a short break, while the evening was dedicated to a visit to LifeClass Hotels & Spa, known for offering a perfect blend of relaxation and business facilities. With the largest spa center in the area, these hotels provide everything needed for an ideal stay. Dinner was organized at the Istrian Bistro & Tapas Bar, where, in a pleasant atmosphere, we learned more about the benefits and services these hotels offer to corporate clients.
On the final day of our stay, before returning, we visited Grand Hotel Bernardin and the historic Magazin Grando. While Hotel Bernardin is already recognized as a premier venue for business events, the former salt warehouse Grando—now transformed into a modern event space—exudes a unique atmosphere. This impressive building, nearly 200 meters long, provides a perfect setting for concerts, congresses, exhibitions, and a variety of other events.
Our journey continued inland to Padna, a picturesque Istrian village nestled in the hills above the coast. Authentic stone architecture, olive groves, and the serene atmosphere make Padna an ideal destination for nature, art, and tranquility enthusiasts. We enjoyed scenic walks, local specialties, and a very special experience—truffle hunting—organized for us by the hosts from the Tourist Board Portorož-Piran.
The hunt was both successful and fun, culminating in a lunch at Gold Istra, where we once again savored the flavors of Istria. Afterward, we bid farewell to Slovenian Istria and headed back to Belgrade, enriched by an unforgettable experience.
